Skiing Holidays in Chamonix Mont Blanc

About Skiing in Chamonix Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc is formed of two ski destinations, Chamonix and Argentiere.

Chamonix is a vibrant alpine town with a big reputation. Located at the foot of Mont-Blanc, it is the birthplace of mountaineering and is the sophisticated grandfather of ski resorts. Mont-Blanc soars to dizzying heights above you, ice falls and glaciers dot the slopes, and you can Europe's highest cable car or the red cog-wheel train to take it all in.

The beautiful, traditional setting of Argentiere, situated 8km up the Chamonix Valley, high up in the Haute Savoie region, hides a powder-packed secret. This is home to some of the most heart-stopping, challenging skiing in France.

Our recommendations for:

Getting there

Planes
One of the reasons for Chamonix Mont Blanc's popularity is its accessibility to Geneva Airport (88 km). Well-renowned operators like Easyjet and British Airways fly from a large choice of UK airports to Geneva, and once you arrive it is only an hour's drive up the motorway to the heart of the resort. It is also close to Lyon-St-Exupery International airport (220km) and Turin-Caselle International airport (171 km). Skiing Holidays does great flight + accommodation deals that may include a transfer as well.

Trains
Chamonix has its own train station (Chamonix Mont-Blanc) with connections to the SNCF lines from St Gervais/Le Fayette and Vallorcine. There are also links to the TGV service at Annecy. Check out www.sncf.com for timetables and booking details.

Automobiles
The driving distance from Calais to Argentiere is 563miles (7hrs50). From Calais, take the A26 Motorway towards Reims and Troyes, then Dijon, Mâcon then the ‘Autoroute Blanche' Motorway (A40 Mâcon - Cluses) and exit Chamonix. Follow the signs to Argentière (4km from Chamonix) on the N506.
