Skiing Holidays in Espace Killy

About Skiing in Espace Killy

The Espace Killy ski area consists of two internationally renowned ski resorts: Val d'Isere and Tignes. All good skiers will be able to ski between the two in a day due to the good standard of lifts connecting the two. This means a fantastic and world famous skiing area, with a reputation for good snow within it's vast boundaries.

Espace Killy is located in Savoie in the French Alps and with the combined resorts of Val d'Isère and Tignes has 300 km of pistes; 20 green runs, 60 blues, 35 reds and 16 blacks, plus 44 km of cross country skiing, 2 terrain parks, 2 glaciers, and 90 ski lifts.

The region is is named after the skier Jean-Claude Killy, the French alpine ski racer and triple Olympic champion who learned to ski on the slopes of Val d'Isere.

Our recommendations for:

Getting there

Planes
The closest airports are Geneva, Lyon Saint-Exupéry, Chambéry and Grenoble. Skiing Holidays can arrange transfers for people not travelling as part of a package. A hire car may also be an option for people - we organise hire cars from each of these airports for you.

Trains
Val d'Isère's closest railway station is located in Bourg St Maurice, 30km away from the ski resort. Every day, especially in the winter, numerous trains (TGV, Eurostar, Thalys...) arrive in Bourg St Maurice train station. Eurostar runs both a direct daytime and an overnight train from London or Ashford. There are two also Eurostar direct services weekly. The night service leaves London/Ashford on Friday evening and arrives in the French Alps early on Saturday morning (returns Saturday night/Sunday morning) while the day service leaves early Saturday morning from London/Ashford and arrives late afternoon (same for return). An alternative is to take a Eurostar to Paris or Lyon and take a French train (perhaps overnight from Paris) to Moûtiers Salins.

Automobiles
Driving out from the UK by car is relatively inexpensive if you can share the journey with friends. Bear in mind that the normal nine hour journey across France may take much longer if you chose to travel on a very busy Saturday or hit heavy snowfalls.

From Calais the journey takes from seven to ten hours depending on your speed. There is motorway or dual carriageway from Calais all the way to Bourg St Maurice (45 minutes past Moutiers) and then a 20-30 minute climb on single carriage road to the resort.
