About La Rosière

The sunny, south-facing resort of Rosiere sits on a plateau above Bourg St Maurice, and is linked with La Thuile in Italy as part of the Espace San Bernado - which means that you can ski across the border into Italy on a stunning journey boasting views of Mont-Blanc, the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. Together the resorts have access to 150 km of pistes.  This family-oriented resort means you can ski three massive bowls across two countries - and sample the delights of French and Italian cuisine!

There are many runs geared towards beginners and intermediates, but there's also a bit here to keep advanced skiers happy. Beginners will want to stick to the greens and blues at the bottom, but intermediates and confident skiers can head straight for the top and over to Italy. It also offers the opportunity to go Heli-skiing in Italy, something which is banned in France. This is a marvellous area for learning off-piste technique. There are a lot of gentle rolling areas between marked runs, so powder beginners get a comparatively easy introduction to the delights of off-piste

The village offers very easy access to the main cable car, and most of the accommodation is within walking distance. The après-ski atmosphere is fairly quiet and relaxed, with the emphasis on chilled out bars and amazing cuisine. With a great reputation for catching snow and sunshine-filled months, wonderful views and the chance to pop over to Italy for an authentic pizza, La Rosiere ticks enough boxes to make it a favourite which visitors return to time and again.

For beginners
There are nursery slopes just beside the main lifts, with easy transition to blue slopes in the same area. Wide gentle pistes allow you to get out and explore a range of areas in the early stages of your learning. Beginners and low-intermediates will want to stick mainly to the greens and blues at the bottom of the mountain.
For intermediates

Intermediates can ski the whole region without having to take challenging runs that will push them too hard. Skiing into Italy for lunch is well within most skiers' abilities and includes some wonderful tree-lined runs into La Thuile. Head up to the reds at the top and over to Italy.

For the advanced
There are some good open powder bowls, couloirs and tree riding in La Rosière, but the terrain in general is quite flat. There are some good black runs, the steepest being down into La Thuile, but there is a massive variety of off-piste options. The ski school also organises trips to St Foy and Les Arcs. If you are an advanced skier or snowboarder you should definitely splash out on a heli-trip (usually available from mid-January). This is a great place to learn off-piste technique. There are many gentle rolling areas between marked runs, so powder beginners get a comparatively easy introduction to the delights of off-piste.
Ski school

The area has been given the label ‘Famille plus Montagne' due to its children's facilities. Les Galopins looks after children aged 16 months to 12 years in Les Eucherts as well as the village centre.

Après Ski

La Rosière has a quieter, more chilled out après-ski scene. So if you're looking for wild party nights, it may not be for you. There are some good bars though; The Yeti is a good hangout spot as well as a restaurant, serving Savoyard specialties and good cocktails. They also have live music occasionally. Le Petit Relais is one of the best places for après ski in La Rosière as is Le Pub. The Chalet and Le Turia are the two most up market restaurants, and Le Turia serves Lebonese dishes, meat and fish skewers to cook at the table. The La Thuile connection means that you can sample authentic French and Italian cuisine. Riondet on the Italian side does tasty raclette.

Off the Mountain

There's a fair bit to do at la Rosiere when you take a break from skiing. On Monday evenings you can join the ESF ski school in a torchlight descent, and there's a fitness centre with sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, spa & beauty care, tobogganing, dog sledging, paragliding, walks, cinema, snow shoe excursions, bowling alley and ice rink. Many of the activities are geared towards children and so it is a great place for young families. Events include Christmas activities, a stage of the Snowkite World Cup in January, a telemarking day, a junior skiing and snowboarding competition and a slopestyle contest for children between 8 and 14 years old.
