![]() ![]() About St Martin de BellevilleWander through St. Martin de Bellville and take in the bursts of colour provided by chalet window boxes overflowing with flowers. The attractive resort is sunny, quiet and authentic - it retains its traditional charm while offering easy access to the biggest ski area in Europe - Les Trois Vallées.Set on a steep slope in the beautiful Belleville valley, the village is the perfect base for exploring the area, and has many delights of its own. It centres around a pretty 16th century church, and a system of marked path (which can be taken on foot or snowshoes) leads through the small villages perched on the side of the mountain. The stone walls are sometimes two or three centuries old. When you're ready to hit the slopes, jump on the gondola then the fast quad, and you'll be in Meribel or Les Menuires in no time. The massive ski-able area has something for everyone from those taking their first wobbly steps in ski boots to off-piste daredevils. There are fewer queues here too, meaning you can make an escape from the infuriating crowds that can get in your way at some of the bigger resorts. St Martin de Belleville is a great choice if you're seeking a cheap ski holiday with good access to the slopes. You can buy Menuires / St Martin lift passes which cover around three quarters of the huge valley, Belleville passes for the whole valley, or 3 Vallees passes to let you roam the entire Three Valleys area. Like its neighbour Les Menuires, St. Martin de Bellville is has so much confidence in its exceptional snow cover that they offer a ‘snow guarantee'. This means that if less than 80% of runs are open due to lack of snow and this makes you decide to leave the resort, you can be reimbursed for your accommodation and ski passes for the unused days. It's only a small step to move from the moving carpet onto the white ground. It's new, easy, fun and free. In addition, parents can play with their kids, even if they don't ski themselves.

St Martin de Bellville seems to be quite a popular choice for visitors staying at neighbouring resorts to pop over to for a drink and an après-ski bite, and as a result there are some truly good restaurants to choose from. These include the Michelin starred La Bouitte - one of the best restaurants in the Three Valleys. The village has three Michelin listed restaurants; Le Montagnard - serving a fabulous Savoyard menu in a converted hayloft, Étoile des Neiges - a smart, traditional restaurant and Le Grenier, in the hotel St Martin, a stylish upmarket lunch that will burn a hole in your pocket. Other good-value restaurants are dotted around serving everything from salads, to pizzas to fondues, and making sure that there is something to suit every budget. While there's no real nightclub around, there are lots of friendly bars and pubs like Brewskiis (live entertainment during the week) and the quieter piano bar Pourquoi Pas where you can relax by the roaring log fire. Yukon (Hotel Le Altitude) is a relaxed family bar with Guinness on tap, and The Joker bar will sometimes take things up a notch when it hosts discotheque nights in the Salle de Fete. Off the Mountain
