Ski holidays in La Plagne are perfect for intermediates with over 70 percent of the mountain made up of blue and red runs. The run from La Grand Rochette to Champagny is a must, and there are lots of gentle blue pistes in the main La Plagne bowl as well as an interesting run from Roche de Mio back to Belle Plagne.

Whilst not an extremely black run dominated mountain, Advanced skiers will enjoy the black runs on the Plagne Bellecôte glacier, or the long tree-lined runs from Aime La Plagne past Plagne 1800. Off piste skiing in La Plagne is good, with the route to Les Arcs challenging.

All the ski schools at La Plagne look after snowboarders and skiers well. The ski school meeting points are convenient to most accommodation, especially in Plagne Centre, making for a very easy family ski holiday. The ESF ski school is good, and the independent ski school Oxygene is probably the most popular with British skiers. Special beginners' ski packs are available, as is ski hire. The independent ski school Reflex set up in la Plagne a few years ago; it is now based in Plagne 1800 but can easily arrange to meet in Plagne Centre. The Reflex ski school is the most flexible and probably the best in la Plagne, it is not the cheapest, but it's great value.

There's a wide variety of nightlife at La Plagne, depending on which village you choose to stay in. The liveliest villages are Belle Plagne and Plagne Centre, Scotties bar/restaurant is located right on the piste at the bottom of the Becoin ski lift out of Plagne Centre. It advertises great food and fantastic après ski with live bands. It is also the only place for English breakfast and Sunday roasts. Spitting Feathers is one of Plagne Bellecote's fun après ski bars offering live music, a large selection of beers, snacks and live football matches and a courtesy mini bus. La Plagne 1800 has a more relaxed scene, so chill out with a cold drink and take in the serenity.

To relax, try one of these: sauna and Jacuzzis, Turkish and seaweed baths, Massage, solarium, bowling, kids pony rides, open-air floodlit ice rink or the outdoor heated pool in Bellecôte. To get your heart pumping, try: squash in Plagne 1800, the health and fitness centres in Belle Plagne and Plagne centre, paragliding, skidoos, quad biking, ice tower climbing, bobsleigh, helicopter flights, ski mountaineering, dog sledding, tobogganing, pony journey, snowshoeing, paint ball, ice karting.

Chambery airport is just 1.5 hours away from la Plagne if you are travelling mid-week. At weekends it may take a little longer! Grenoble airport is 2 to 2.5 hours from la Plagne. Geneva airport is 2.5 to 3 hours away, and Lyon airport 2.5 to 3 hours.

Eurostar trains are available direct to the Alps, either daytime or overnight. The closest train station is Aime la Plagne .Sleeper/ snowtrains also leave from Paris and Calais. All trains can be booked with Rail Europe.

The easiest way from Calais is to follow the A26 autoroute for Reims that passes Troyes and Dijon. South of Dijon it joins the main Paris/ Lyon autoroute, the A6, at Beaune. Lyon is by-passed by taking the A46 and A43 to Chambery. NB At the toll 15km before Lyon keep to the right-hand lane as the turn-off is 2km on the right. From Chambery follow the directions for Albertville. It's motorway from Calais to Albertville; tolls are €60-65 each way. At Albertville the motorway leads directly onto the dual carriageway to Moutiers. Follow the signs for Bourg St Maurice unless you are going to Champagny in which case initially follow the signs for Courchevel. For the high altitude villages in La Plagne and for Montalbert head towards Bourg St Maurice, turn off at Aime and follow the signs for la Plagne. For Montchavin - Les Coches continue on the road towards Bourg St Maurice, there is a turn off soon after Aime.
