About Lillehammer & Hafjell

Lillehammer, host to the Winter Olympic games in 1994, is Norway's oldest winter sports resort. The city provides a combination of long-standing traditions, modern activities and excellent standards. The architecture and scenery are stunning and Lillehammer is a true winter wonderland. One of the biggest advantages of Lillehammer is that you know there will be snow, no matter what the conditions are like elsewhere the low temperatures throughout the winter ensure that the resort has snow.

The bobsleigh is an amazing experience, at the Olympic Bobsleigh track you can ride in a professional ice bob that seats 3 passengers and reaches speeds of up to an incredible 120km/h, or for the slightly less adventurous you can ride in a bobraft which is a rubber bobsleigh with wooden runners that seats 5 passengers per run and reaches speeds of 70-80km/h. All the bobs are steered by autohorised pilots. Hafjell Alpine centre is located at the entrance of the Gudbrandsdalen valley, 15 km north of Lillehammer.

The Olympic trail network has been extended and disposes 30 slopes offering winner experiences for skiers of all levels. 15 lifts, including the Gondola, serves the 835 vertical metres from the base to the top of the mountain. Hafjell`s trademark are long runs, excellent snow and sunny climate. The snow system assists the weather in producing good conditions and covers about 80 % of total terrain. A normal seson starts mid November and closes late April.

For beginners

Excellent: Hafjell provides ideal slopes and snow conditions for all types of beginners, whether alpine, snowboard, cross country or telemark is your preference. The great instructors offer a relaxed learning atmosphere and all speak excellent English. This resort is ideal for beginners, the resort has a lift system built to match the number of beds on offer in the resort, the result being very empty slopes. The runs are wide and tree-lined, giving a beginner space to turn safely in their own time. The beginner slopes are situated at the base of the slopes right next to the main ski centre, making ski lessons easy to get to.

For intermediates

Using the efficient lift system access to all areas of the mountain will have you skiing all day. In a resort where lift queues are virtually unheard of you can ski non-stop or test your skills on pistes used in the 1994 Winter Olympics all on a great value lift pass. Hafjell is a great place for intermediates. The lack of lift queues, means your time on the slopes in maximised. The uncluttered slopes and wide pistes mean you have time and space to improve your technique... and have plenty of fun

For the advanced

Good: Hafjell offers a great opportunity for extreme off piste and with reliable snow conditions powder can be found throughout most of the season. We have many guests that have skied all over the world, and one of the things they comment on the most , is the space on piste that Norway can offer. If an advanced skiier wants to test their skills they usually like to go fast! This isn't always possible in many of the overcrowded resorts in Europe, but in Hafjell to be the only skier on a run some days is not unusual. The quality of the snow is likened to that of Canada and North america, the low temperatures especially in December and January result in a very special snow, cold, dry powder and lots of it! The Kjus race school has their home in Hafjell, and a specially designed slope, by the man himself is located here, with race schools from all over Europe coming to train. This slope is open to everybody to test their wit and technique. For those amongst you we suggest a ski away day to Kvitfjell, where you can test yourself on one of the most technical downhill courses on the World Cup circuit.

Ski school

Children as well as adults need guidance on how to take the skiing to the next level. It is not always the best idea to be instructed by family and friends To sign up for a ski school lesson and hire a personal coach, together with the family or in a group, will increase the confidence and add more fun to the skiing. Use the first lesson to make new technical achievements or to change your style of skiing. Then you can spend the rest of the day to make drills and continue to focus on the right tecnique. At Hafjell Ski School you an sign up for basic as well as advanced courses. We teach all levels and all disciplines. If you have special requests on instructors or time, we recommend you to book at least 30 days before your day of arrival. Having finished one or more of our ski school courses, you will end up as a more conscious and focused skier. You will enjoy skiing even more, and master the hills in a better and safer way.

Après Ski

Apres ski in Hafjell-Village, the apres-ski in Hafjell is very modest, with some nice pubs and restaurants. The best bar in the ski resorts is Woody's. A typical British bar. Take the cable car and/or the chair lift to the top of Hafjell, and eat a tasty lunch at Gaiastova while you marvel at the fantastic views across the valley. Warm yourself in front of the crackling fireplace or experience the exhilarated mood of the apres-ski!

Off the Mountain

Cinema Ice Rink Indoor Pool Shops Skidoo Walking Trails Gym/Fitness room Snowshoeing, Children`s area, Winter park, indoor playarena and recreational swimming pool are only some of the options. Culture and entertainment are served at Maihaugen, The Norwegian Olympic Museum and Lillehammer Art Museum.
