About Klovsjo

Known as the prettiest mountain village in Sweden, Klövsjö is a small, authentic village that has long been a popular favourite with Swedish skiers. As part of the Vemdalen ski area, the resort is linked with Storhonga by lifts and pistes, and Bjornrike and Vemdalen by bus. One ski pass covers the whole area.

Between Klövsjö and Storhonga, there is a great variety of pistes, from those perfect for kids and beginners to some steep black runs that will test even the most hardened skier. Unusually, the sunny, gentle family pistes are situated at the top of the mountain, with some of the toughest runs further down. The slopes are generally uncrowded and set amidst beautiful scenery.

Many of the off-mountain activities are all about helping you discover the beauty and silence of the wilderness in the area. Klövsjö has a history of wars during the period in which is belonged to Sweden, and Vemdalen belonged to Norway. War raged over the mountains, and you can still see the marks of King Karl XI in many spots around the area.

With great snow and a lot of charm, the resort is only now being discovered by skiers beyond Sweden's borders. Referred to as a skier's ski resort, the small size of the village means the focus is very much on hitting the slopes, and not so much on après-ski. However with three other resorts nearby, you can head out for a livelier evening easily. Massive upgrades to the village and facilities are being made, with the aim of creating not the biggest ski resort in Sweden, but the best.

For beginners

Klövsjö caters well for beginners, with the gentlest runs sitting up top of the mountain. There is also a small nursery area at the ski base outside the hotel. Nearby Vemdalen is the ideal resort for complete beginners of all ages. The long, wide slopes are well planned and designed to lead back to one central meeting point at the base of the slopes. You can jump on a bus easily to head there for the day.

For intermediates

Intermediates have a good selection of runs between Klövsjö and Storhonga. Several blue and red runs are ideal for improving technique. The steeper slopes run back to the ski base. As well as being lift-linked to Storhonga, the ski bus service provides easy access to nearby Vemdalen and Bjornrike for ski-away days.

For the advanced

Klövsjö is not an expert's resort, but there are some good steeper black runs here to test you. The harder runs are unusually located at the bottom of the mountain.

Ski school

Vemdalen has an internationally renowned ski school that spans all three resorts including Klövsjö.

Après Ski

As the smallest village in Vemdalen, the après-ski atmosphere is very quiet. The Kovsjofjall Hotel is pretty much the only venue to head to. The pub and restaurant here are excellent. At the pub, live music kicks off après-ski and goes late into the evenings. The newly renovated restaurant serves a tasty menu, including pasta, fillet of beef toast, char (our local fish), and our pepper steak flambéed at the table. If you want some variety, you can catch the bus over to neighbouring Vemdalen and Bjornrike.

Off the Mountain

There may not be a huge amount of facilities in Klövsjö, but there are a lot of activities to do when not skiing, in the wider Vemdalen area. Take in the sights on a snow mobile, visiting a chalet ground from the 18th century and stopping for lunch. Another great safari combines snowmobiling with fishing. How about fishing in some of the best fishing-waters of the mountains, spotting elk and other local animals, staying the night in woodland and bathing in a sauna heated by wood or dipping in a bath barrel underneath the night sky? For something a little slower try a horse and sleigh tour - snuggle into the warm fur blanket in the sleigh and enjoy silence apart from the jingle of horse-bells. You can also try: a black grouse and black cock game hunt, a wildlife fieldtrip, ice karting, ice fishing, ice climbing, quad biking, kite boarding, bowling and learn about the traditional Saami culture. This can include traditional food, lasso throwing and a reindeer sleigh ride.
