About Vemdalen

You'd be hard-pressed to find a friendlier resort with better service than Sweden's Vemdalen.  Linked with Bjornrike and Klövsjö, Vemdalen is a family and beginner paradise. There's a renowned ski school, and the majority of the skiing is on wide, gentle slopes. There's also an easy network of uncrowded slopes that all lead back to the same spot at the ski base, giving learners that extra bit of confidence, and a dedicated kids zone. Between the linked resorts there are also lots of cruisers for intermediates to enjoy and some fast blacks and tough mogul trails.

You can jump on a pair of cross-country skis and explore the mountains, open countryside and villages surrounding Vemdalen. Two fun parks should keep freestyle boarders happy, and you can get maximum slope time with 10 floodlit slopes. The resort is compact and the trails well connected, making it easy to get around. Bjornrike and Klövsjö are covered by the same ski pass, and easily accessed for a little variety. Après-ski is relaxed, low-key, and caters to families with child-friendly facilities.

Sample tasty traditional Swedish fare at one of many good restaurants, or relax to some tunes in mellow bars. The warm, welcoming restaurants and fantastic customer service will have you staying on for desert and aperitifs. Accommodation ranges from luxurious spa hotels to family friendly and budget conscious cabins. Vemdalen is quiet; it's of the beaten track and geared towards making your family holiday as easy and as special as possible.

For beginners

Vemdalen is perfectly suited to beginners. You'll feel as comfortable and confident as possible when you take your first wobbly turns here. The long, wide slopes are well planned and designed to lead back to one central meeting point at the base of the slopes. Vemdalen's ski school has a great reputation and has talented English-speaking instructors.

For intermediates

The ski terrain offers great intermediate skiing, with 10 lifts and 13 pistes in Vemdalen and 8 lifts and 15 pistes in Bjornrike, more suited to improvers and intermediate skiers. Vemdalen also offers floodlit skiing two evenings per week until the end of March.

For the advanced

There's not a huge scope for expert skiers at Vemdalen, but between the resort and Bjornrike and Klövsjö there are some good black runs. You can get a ski bus between the areas. The uncrowded slopes make it a good time to book a specialist ski course to sharpen up your off-piste, carving and mogul technique.

Ski school

Vemdalens' ski school is very highly-rated and a favourite with British skiers. The English-speaking instructors offer a range of lessons, both private and group, and tuition in more advanced skills.

Après Ski
The après ski scene is mostly laid-back and quiet, but picks up in the weekends. Many of the bars are located in the hotels and some offer live music. The resort has a nightclub which will take the party on though the night. Baggen (Vemdalsskalets Högfjällshotell) offers the most lively après ski, with a good party atmosphere and live music. Hotell Klövsjöfjäll and Storhogna Högfjällshotell & Spa are also worth checking out. There are many restaurants in Vemdalen and Bjornrike, offering local ingredients and featuring regional specialties like 'kolbullar' dumplings, 'flotgrot' porridge and 'tunnbrod' bread.
Off the Mountain

On and off the slopes this resort has a relaxed and friendly feel.  You can revive yourself a little with beauty treatments and facilities, or head to the spa centre with a gym and a pool. Check out one of the most beautiful churches in Sweden, which dates back to the 18th century and is built in an octagonal shape. Check out the amazing scenery, mountains and countryside in a number of different ways - snowmobiling, sleigh rides, dog sledding, ice climbing, ice-fishing, pony trekking, floodlit skiing, helicopter rides. There's also a cinema, bowling, Beauty treatments and services are available, with one of the luxury hotels housing a spa centre with a gym and pool. Family activities include organised children's' games, discos and films. The village has one of the countries' most beautiful churches, dating back to the Rococo period in the 18th century, and is built in an octagonal shape from timber. Explore the unspoilt scenery, and venture into the mountains and open countryside on a snowmobile safari, dog sledding trip or ice-fishing expedition.
