Experience life in a traditional Savoyard village at Les Carroz d'Arâches, a thriving community surrounded by magnificent mountains.

An authentic French ski town nestled in the heart of the Haute Savoie Alps. Picture ancient chapels (including one built in 1733 in honour of Mary Magdalene), countless old farms, chalets and barns dotting the picturesque landscape. It's a great location - a sunny plateau with spectacular views down towards the valley. A fantastic family resort, it's only 40 km from Geneva, making it a lot easier to bring kids. It's also perfect for short stays.

Generally Les Carroz favours beginner and intermediate skiers, but it is linked to Grand Massif, one of the biggest ski areas in France, where there's skiing for every level and virtually no queues! The Grand Massif ski area comprises 5 linked ski resorts - Les Carroz, Flaine, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt Fer à Cheval. With 265km of pistes (ranging from 750m to 2500m in altitude) surrounded by pine forests, fuffy snow-packed bowls and fairytale settings, we definitely recommend you grab a ski pass for the whole area...and go wild!

Les Carroz for Different Ski Abilities

beginner skiers

For beginner skiers, Les Carroz d'Araches offers a small area close to the village. There's a further beginner's area, along with the lifts accessing the main ski area above Les Carroz d'Araches. Lots of good options for learners in the wider Grand Massif area, the area definitely favours beginner and intermediate skiers and boarders.

intermediate skiers

Intermediates are the best served by the area, although beginners also enjoy a fairly good range with long green runs in the Flaine bowl, before progressing to gentle blues. Nervous intermediates can also try the green run at Vernant to build confidence, whilst the more confident can enjoy the runs in the immediate area down to Les Carroz.

expert skiers

While intermediates have the best pick of skiing at Les Carroz d'Araches, experts have a huge amount of choice in the greater Grand Massif area. You can explore the rocks and crevasses of the Flaine bowl, or the notorious Diamant Noir, with its narrow moguls, and the Lindars Nord or the ominously named Styx Piste, with its near 45 degree slopes. Boarders can access the park in Flaine and enjoy fantastic off-piste that constantly delights.

Les Carroz Ski Schools

Gain confidence, improve your technique or try out new sports with one of Les Carroz's ski schools. If you want more variety, there are hundreds of instructors spread out through the Grand Massif area.

Après Ski and Off the Mountain Activities

Après Ski

There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the village and although not one of the liveliest resorts, there is enough to keep everyone amused during their stay. There are some charming and authentic bars in the centre that are a long way from the artifical feel of bars built in other resorts. There's twenty restaurants and eight bars all up, along with one nightclub - Club 74.

off the mountain

On Tuesdays, on the Aravis Square a Savoyard market takes place all the year round, where you can pick up some traditional treats, and from April to November every first Friday of the month a farm market in Ballancy (5 km from les Carroz). All the usual activities are laid on with style, try: Snowshoeing, dog sledding, winter walks, ice skating, ice climbing, hot air ballooning, hangliding, para-gliding, parapenting, tennis, badminton, table tennis, bowling, billiards, weekend in an igloo, tobogganing, floodlit skiing, massages, shiatsu and beauty treatments and a wood painting workshop. The ski school's torch-lit descent is a must-see, starting off with fireworks and ending with vin chaud and live jazz in the square.
